Monday

Illustrator Skill Building

Today we continued in the computer lab working in Adobe Illustrator.

Tuesday - Team Building Luz/Komatsubara team only

Turnstile

  • Mission: get your team through the spinning ropes without touching!

All Aboard

  • Mission: get as many members of your team to complete 2 jumps together at the same times as is possible.

Overpass

Mission: pass the weighted ball around your entire as fast as possible!

A few important take aways from our team building time:

  • Building off of last weeks team building it is important to remember how important it is to show support for people on our team when they make mistakes. We all mistakes! We all deserve compassion and support!

  • Being a good team mate means winning with humility and loosing with grace.

Wednesday

Today we mixed a stabilization focused workout with various concepts related strength training.

Some of the topics we covered were:

  • sliding filament theory - explains how molecules in the muscle shift together, resulting in a muscle contraction

  • principle of specificity

  • When the body is placed under stress, it starts to make adaptations that allow it to get better at withstanding that specific form of stress in the future. i.e. to get better at something you must do more of that thing.

  • extension vs flexion

  • flexion - the contraction of a muscle that results in the closing of a joint

  • extension - the contraction of a muscle that results in the opening of a joint

  • Why we focus on stabilizing exercises before strengthening exercises.

  • if we don't build appropriate strength in stabilizer muscles before we start building strength in our prime movers we risk overloading joints suffering from injuries

  • appropriate tempo for stabilization exercises

  • Tempo is set at a relatively slow 4/2/1 pace.

  • 4 seconds for the eccentric contraction,

  • 2 seconds for the isometric hold

  • 1 second for the concentric contraction

  • By utilizing slower motion, more demand is focused on the connective tissue and stabilizing muscles.

Thursday

More Illustrator

Today we put back together the scrambled image of an owl to practice working within the layers panel, and visualizing how to use simple shapes to create complex characters.

Try out the Owl Shuffle Activity to get a sense of how characters are created.

Friday

Stretching Stories Shared

Student groups read their stories to the large group. While students were sharing the poses they included in their stories were projected on the screen and the large group performed each move.

After each story was shared we participated in a short stretch session together.
