PROGRAM

Welcome to HTM's Newest Exploratory
GetFit: Total Wellness

GetFit is your first exploratory course at HTM, together we will explore the physical, mental, emotional and social dimensions of health and the effects they have on us as people.  You will use what you learn to develop your own set of personalized beliefs and routines that will enable you to make the decisions necessary for a lifetime of good health.

Here are some of the big questions we might explore

  • What is well being (physical, mental, emotional, and social wellness)?

  • What are the effects of disease on the individual, the family, and the community?

  • How are good wellness choices/ decisions made?

  • In what areas of my life can I exert choice and autonomy?

  • What are socially acceptable behaviors?

  • What information is needed to make daily healthy food choices?

  • How does personal behavior affect the safety of self and others?

  • How are basic motor skills developed and accomplished safely and efficiently?

  • What does it mean to be “physically fit?”

  • What is the difference between “movement” and “exercise?”

  • How does understanding the ways in which human biology and society have evolved over time influence our ability to lead healthy lives today?

You will also learn how to express yourself and communicate ideas through various media (such as digital video, photography, graphic art/design) as well as learn the technical skills necessary to use today’s high tech digital fabricating tools such as 3D printer, Laser Cutter, CNC Routers and more. You will gain valuable life skills and produce exciting, real-world projects with a purpose.

CERTIFIED PERSONAL TRAINER,
YOUTH FITNESS SPECIALIST AND
HOLISTIC HEALTH COACH

I have a life long history of promoting health and wellness. As a young student, my interest in health and fitness led me to study Biology at the University of California at San Diego, where I earned my bachelors of science degree.  I decided to combine my love of biology and working with people and enter the field of education.  In my 11 years at HTM I spent 5 years working as a math/science teacher where I taught the biology of nutrition and fitness to help kids better understand thier health.

I continued my wellness training at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York City, which is the only nutrition school integrating all the hundreds of different dietary theories with other essential lifestyle factors such as relationships, career and physical activity.  My interest in working with people in pursuit of thier athletic enndeavors led me to the National Academy of Sports Medicine to become a Certified Personal Trainer, I also hold a Specialization in Youth Fitness through the American Council on Exercise.

By combining the knowledge of traditional philosophies with modern concepts I work with the unique circumstances of my clients and students to promote health.
